Current Activities of the Silver Spring Garden Club
The
general meetings of the Silver Spring Garden Club are open to the public. The
meetings are held normally on the third Monday of every month (except July,
August, and December) starting at 8:00pm.
We meet at the Brookside Gardens’
Visitors Center/Education Building auditorium, 1800 Glenallan Avenue, in Silver
Spring, Maryland. Our monthly meetings are popular not only with our
members, but the attending public as well. Knowledgeable and respected
lecturers are chosen from the gardening world to give presentations at each
meeting. These programs are outlined each month in our newsletter, The
Grapevine.
Club
dues are $10 per year for an individual and $15 per year for couple or
household. Dues are payable by January 1st. Our dues cycle runs with the
calendar year.
The Silver Spring Garden Club has
its own online Yahoo discussion list. If you are a member of the club and have
email access, please sign up for our online list today — instructions are
below. It is very important that we have as many of our members on this list as
possible in the case of a meeting cancellation due to bad weather or we have a
last-minute offer of a garden tour.
We want to keep you all informed and involved.

Workshops,
tours, and special programs are planned during the year and are announced in The
Grapevine. Club members volunteer for various Club committees to carry on
its activities.
The
Club’s annual elections and business meeting are held in November. The Silver
Spring Garden Club Constitution and Bylaws are available to any member upon
request.
The
Club works on two continuing local park projects: planting daffodil bulbs each
Veteran’s Day at Jesup Blair Park and helping maintain the native garden in
Ellsworth Urban Park.
On
the Saturday before Mother’s Day weekend in May our annual "Garden
Mart," is held at Brookside Gardens. The Mart is eagerly awaited by the
gardening community. The sale of annuals, perennials, herbs, and vegetables,
plants from members' gardens, and a raffle has helped fund our contributions to
worthy causes since 1940. It is also
supported by area merchants. Club members who
volunteer at the Garden Mart receive a 10% discount off Mart purchases.
